Ohio's Tomorrow cosponsors the Columbus "Get Green" Business Conference

Friday December 15th, Ohio’s Tomorrow, co-sponsored the Columbus “Get Green” Business Conference, along with AEP Ohio, SWACO, the Columbus Chamber, and others.  Bringing together over 200 business and community leaders including builders, architects, manufacturers, and government officials, the conference highlighted economic development, job creation, and sustainability advancements taking place across the region that will result in a healthier environment and stable climate.  Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman opened the conference commending participants on recent successes and encouraging continued progress for a stronger central Ohio.  David Brehm of the Mayor’s Green Team provided the attendees with an overview of the efforts underway by the city of Columbus to create a stronger city both environmentally and economically.  Mike Long of the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio informed the group of development of a green building park of the site of a former trash burning power plant.  The park will recruit employers to Columbus dedicated to creating jobs and protecting the environment.  Panelist representing Corna/Kokosing, North Star Café, Clean Water Ltd., The Ohio State University, and Honda each gave interesting presentations about how being economically conscious has affected and grown their businesses.  Dr. Joseph Fiksel of the OSU Center for Resilience closed the conference with a presentation showing examples of leading corporations embracing the principals of sustainability by reusing waste products from other industries.  The day provided participants with insight from those making change in central Ohio and challenged those in attendance to encourage economic development by embracing “green” development.
